In many cases Sellers are horrified. As such they are either dropping their price, or are negotiating more reasonably. Not all are scared, though.

A lot of Sellers be left dug-in and attached to an inflated price. Some of these, though, sensing that they will never get their price, which is exact, are taking their house off the market. Which is what they should do. Get out of the way because they are not serious about selling.
The bottom line is there is ample opportunity in South Lake Tahoe right now, particularly right now. The key to find a Seller who will offer you the best deal possible is to find a polished real estate agent you can trust.
